어렸을적, 여느책들보다도 추리물들을 한참 좋아했던 나는 Agatha Christie의 거의 모든 작품들을 읽었던 것으로 기억한다. 그러나 그의 '그리고 아무도 없었다'가 아직까지도 깨지지 않는 추리물 분야 최대판매량을 기록하고 있고, 대다수에게 역사상 가장 위대한 추리소설로 꼽힌다는 사실은 불과 얼마전에야 알게되었다.

내용도 가물가물했고, 번역판이 아닌 원서로 다시 읽는것 자체만으로도 의미가 있는듯하여 주문한 책이, 한참이나 걸려 배달되는 날까지 기다리는것이 무척 지루했다. 한걸음에 마지막 페이지까지 넘기며, 과연... 이라는 감탄이 절로 나온다. 더군다나 작품의 출시가 1939년도라는 사실이 믿기지 않을정도로, 전개의 세련미와 작가의 치밀한 복선들이 눈에 띈다.

Ten Little Indian Boys.. 아이들의 천진난만한 이 동요가 다시는 예전같이 들리지 않을듯 싶다.
